A wet timing belt is a vital rubber component that runs inside your engine, submerged in oil and keeping everything perfectly in sync. It’s important that your belt is in good condition and running properly because if it fails, the engine can suffer serious damage, often leading to very costly repairs and even engine replacement.
Most manufacturer maintenance schedules state that wet timing belts should last around 5 years or up to 100,000 miles. However, depending on the age of your vehicle, driving habits and maintenance history, the lifetime of a wet belt can differ significantly and fail much earlier due to oil degradation which can shred the belt and block oil flow.
The common manufactures that use wet belt systems are Citroen, Peugeot, Ford, Vauxhall and some Toyota models.
